Modern Classes
Modern is a term used to describe several related styles of dance developed around the turn of the 20th century. Modern dance centers on a dancer's own interpretations instead of rigidly structured steps, as in classical ballet. A modern dancer often diverges from the classical ballet stance of an upright, erect body, introducing instead falls and rolls to the floor, flexed feet, and turned in legs. Students will be introduced to the different schools of modern dance. Our modern classes consist of an eclectic mix of modern and postmodern dance styles.
